About the Archives

  • This is a collaborative initiative between the Transgender Archives and the BC Gay and Lesbian Archives.
  • The Transgender Archives is an academia-based archive that takes community archives from around B.C. to complie the history of Trans+ and genderqueer people.
  • They are within a Canadian public institution, at the University of Victoria.

Key Initiatives

  • The aim is to celebrate and document 45 years of Pride in Vancouver during the 2024 Vancouver Pride Parade.
  • Highlight the importance of preserving the history of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and encourage public participation in contributing to archival collections.
  • Educating the public about the significance of archival preservation and commemorating the pieces of the past through archives – building a resilient future for all.
  • The two archives will have a booth at the pride where people can donate recordings, newspaper clippings, flyers, and family photos, etc., or just come and look archives.

Vancouver Pride

  • Has been around for 45 years, since 1978.
  • The BC Gay and Lesbian Archives are Vancouver based, and have documented pride and queer events and history, with the help of Ron Dutton, for over 40 years.
  • The BC Gay and Lesbian Archives have digitalized much of the analog documentation allowing it to be preserved and seen for generations.

Audience Insights

  • Sprout Social Q4 Pulse Survey 2024, revealed that generational marketing is a strategic and favorable approach to segmenting audiences and targeting them based on platform usage.
  • Generation Z survey respondents ages 18-24 and Millennials survey respondents ages 25-40 are on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.
  • Gen Z is one of the fastest-growing demographics on social media platforms contributing to an 41% increase in content posted on the platform between spring 2021 and spring 2023.
  • Gen Z and Millennials value stories and authenticity and they focus on educational content that feels authentic for a brand.
  • Baby Boomers, survey respondents ages 57-74, share similarities in how they want to connect with brands but the use of traditional media. Blog post headlines are what grab boomers’ attention.
